This case highlights the careful, structured approach we follow - delivering enhanced performance and reliability, while maintaining the quality and care expected from a Repco-Authorised Service centre. Initial Assessment & Diagnostics When the customer brought in the 70 Series LandCruiser, our first task was a full inspection of the exhaust and diesel systems. We performed a detailed check of the existing exhaust path, assessing the manifold, header/extractor connections, piping, muffler, hangers and joints. Simultaneously, we reviewed the condition of the glow plugs and relevant electrical/ignition systems to verify operational efficiency and readiness for a diesel upgrade. This initial diagnostic stage ensures we understand exactly what’s needed - and safeguards against surprises once the upgrade begins. Planning the Custom Upgrade With inspection complete, we drafted a tailored plan for the custom exhaust system and glow plug refresh. The design considered the 70 Series’ diesel engine characteristics, the owner’s driving use (daily driving and occasional off-road or towing), and the balance between performance improvements, engine reliability, and acceptable noise/vibration levels. The plan included fabricating or sourcing appropriately rated exhaust extractors and a Redback high-flow muffler system suited for the LandCruiser’s displacement and exhaust flow. For the glow plug service, we planned to replace all plugs to ensure consistent cold-start performance and smoother diesel combustion - critical for longevity and responsiveness. Execution: Exhaust Fit-Out & Glow Plug Service Once parts and components were ready, the team at Riley's Mechanical & More proceeded with the upgrade. Working carefully in the workshop, the original exhaust manifold and piping were removed, and new extractors installed, followed by custom-bent piping to fit the chassis and layout of the LandCruiser. The Redback high-flow muffler and tail-pipe were then mounted, with secure hangers and heat-resistant joins to withstand diesel exhaust temperatures and long-term use. The glow plug set was also swapped out. Each old plug was removed, and new ones installed using correct torque specs and sealing methods. Once installed, the ignition/starting system was tested thoroughly, verifying cold-start reliability, idle smoothness, and proper integration with the exhaust upgrade. Post-Installation Testing & Adjustment After the mechanical work was done, we carried out a comprehensive test drive and performance check. This included engine start performance (cold and warm), smoothness at idle, throttle response, exhaust sound levels, and checking for leaks or exhaust fumes intrusion. We also monitored fuel consumption and diesel engine response under varied load conditions - ensuring that the upgrade delivered real-world benefits without compromising comfort or compliance. Final Delivery & Warranty - Quality You Can Rely On The finished LandCruiser left our workshop with improved exhaust flow, a deeper but controlled exhaust note, stronger engine response on diesel fuel, reliable cold-start performance thanks to refreshed glow plugs, and peace of mind provided by the nationwide warranty coverage. Each independently owned Repco Authorised Service workshop offers you an Australian-wide warranty ensuring the goods and services you receive are free from defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If something does go wrong or you have a question about our Nationwide Warranty, please get in touch with us here. With over 500 Repco Authorised Service centres Australia wide, there are few places you won't find one of our workshops within easy reach. Warranty Period For services provided by any Repco Authorised Service workshop, the warranty is for a period of 12 months or 20,000kms (whichever comes first) from the date of your invoice. Claims If you need to make a claim under the warranty, please contact the Repco Authorised Service workshop that originally completed the work on your vehicle. The workshop where the work was originally performed will be responsible for responding to and accepting claims. If the original workshop can't help, they may authorise another workshop in the network to assist. Terms and Conditions What does the warranty cover? The Repco Authorised Service workshop will have the option of reperforming, replacing or repairing the good or service if it is or becomes defective during the warranty period, at no additional charge.
a.       Where the good or service is replaced, repaired or reperformed pursuant to this warranty, the replacement good or reperformed service will be subject to the terms of this warranty commencing on the date of the original invoice.
b.       If you request for a good to be repaired, your Repco Authorised Service workshop may choose to replace the good with a refurbished good of the same type. The warranty will cover any reasonable diagnosis or scanning fees conducted by the relevant Repco Authorised Service workshop, if such goods or services are later found to be defective. If the work done on your vehicle involves the supply of services from another service provider nominated by the Repco Authorised Service centre, the warranty offered by such service provider will replace this Nationwide Warranty to the extent of such goods .  The Repco Authorised Service centre will advise you of the terms and conditions of such warranty. The rights and obligations under this warranty remain solely with the original Repco Authorised Service workshop that provided you with the product or service. The benefit of this warranty is personal to you and is not transferable. What does the warranty not cover? This warranty does not cover: normal wear and tear and consumable goods such as globes, wipers, and fluids; loss of any data stored in your vehicle like music or phone numbers; and any incidental loss or damage caused by the defect, such as towing fees, loss of profits, loss of use and loss of goodwill or other loss or damage that cannot reasonably be considered to arise normally. This warranty is void if the defect is a consequence of misuse, neglect, abuse, incorrect operation or improper maintenance of the vehicle, accident, or other use that is not otherwise caused by a Repco Authorised Service workshop. How to submit a warranty claim Step 1: Have your original invoice ready. Step 2: Ensure that you make your claim within the warranty period. Step 3:  Please contact the Repco Authorised Service centre that carried out the relevant repairs or maintenance on your vehicle. Their contact details are on  your original invoice.  Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law The goods and services acquired from a Repco Authorised Service workshop comes with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled: to cancel your service contract with us; and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to choose a refund or replacement for major failures with goods. If a failure with the goods or a service does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the failure rectified in a reasonable time. If this is not done, you are entitled to a refund for the goods and to cancel the contract for the service and obtain a refund of any unused portion. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage from a failure in the goods or service.
